Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Rajasthan Police has geared up to deter criminals from committing any crime that could affect the election process.

The cops have found that effective action against arms smuggling is a major way through which criminals and antisocial elements can be deterred from committing acts that hamper the election process. Thus a massive drive has been initiated across the state in which various wings of the police department like Anti-Terrorism Squad, Intelligence Bureau, Special Operations Group along with the district police is gathering information about arms peddlers and making arrests.

“The ATS had received information from sources that one man had bought a cache of weapons from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh and would supply the same to a man in Chhabra in Baran district. The cops informed the Baran police as well and conducted barricading around the main gate of Bharat Vikas Parishad. “The man had already been identified as one Mahesh Singh (50) and as he passed from the area, he was detained and checked. During the checking, four pistols of .32 bore and 8 magazines were recovered from him,” said Sunil Bishnoi, SP Baran.
