A government senior secondary school based in Alsigarh, a place 25 kilometre from Udaipur, aims to go beyond the ordinary when it comes to bringing creativity in education.

As a part of Saturday Baal Sabha, Kaun Banega Crorepati themed activity was organised by the school’s social studies professor, Himmat Singh Kothari, this week. The activity, which was not only new but fascinating for children who have never seen the show on television, was an ideal setup of making children learn through play.

The one-hour activity involved a proper KBC set up with a hot seat and audience. Anyone interested in playing was welcomed.

“We downloaded general knowledge questions through Google on the tablet given to the school. The questions were till the level of a 10th standard student. Rules were similar to the actual KBC with 12 questions,” Kothari explained.

The winning amount ranged from Rs 1 to Rs 500. The 12 questions were divided into three phases, as it is in the real game. The correct answer to the fourth question awards the participant Rs 10, eighth question awards Rs 100, and finally the twelfth question awards Rs 500.

“An eleventh grade participant, Lalita, had almost won the game but couldn’t answer the 12th question correctly. She was very close. Accordingly we had given her 100 rupees,” Kothari said.

The lifelines were inspired by the real show except with a modification where one lifeline allowed the student to take help from the teacher, however, if the lifeline is taken, only 50 per cent of the winning amount is provided to him or her.

Teachers from other departments had also helped in organising the game. Similar activities like Garba, and discussion on ‘Ma’ have been planned earlier by the faculty.
