Lokayukta submits Mathur Commission enquiry report to Guv

Lokayukta Justice SS Kothari submitted the combined enquiry report of the cases received from Mathur commission to the Governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday.

Justice Kothari, known for his forthrightness and unshaken credibility, has put in a lot of efforts in finalising the cases. The feat becomes even more important as the cases were disposed without any political hullabaloo and controversy.  

Complying with the orders of the High Court which has directed Lokayukta to probe 1828 cases after the constitution of Mathur Commission was challenged. The Lokayukta secretariat compiled the 757-page report.

During the presentation of the report, Lokayukta informed that after the enquiry, out of 199 cases of irregularities in land use change, cancellation action was taken in 28 cases. In 38 cases, after the deposition of penalty, they were made regular while required action was taken in 133 cases.

Similarly, in land allotment cases, irregularities were found in 36 cases of which cancellations were done in 10 cases while 8 cases were regularised after depositing the required penalty. In  as many as 18 cases action was initiated as per the law.

Lokayukta Kothari also informed that during the inquiry 18 cases of encroachment on government land or flouting of building by laws was observed  , in all such cases required action had been taken .  

Moreover, in 88 cases of irregularities, the stamp duty, development fee, lease amount, penalty etc to the tune of Rs 20 crores, 37 lakhs 42 thousand and 2 hundred 92 were taken and were deposited in the state Exchequer. During this meeting, principal secretary of Lokayukta secretariat Dr Padam Kumar Jain and officials of Raj Bhawan were present.

Mathur Commission

The Mathur commission led by Justice N N Mathur was constituted by Ashok Gehlot government in 2009 to probe into corruption cases. The constitution of commission was later challenged in the court.

Later the High Court ordered the cases pending with Mathur Commission to be handed over to the Lokayukta for  probe
