It was a day of uproars during the question hour of the last day of the first session of the fifteenth State Assembly. Former minister and BJP legislator Rajendra Rathore tried to corner the government on the Food Security Scheme (FSS). Later, the opposition held a massive protest over farm loan waiver. Claiming that the Congress government was trying to dupe the farmers, the BJP legislators entered the well and started raising slogans. They then staged a walkout from the house.

Rathore asked in the assembly if the state government can increase the purview of the FSS. Replying to the question, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ramesh Meena informed that the government has added eight more categories to the total tally of beneficiaries taking the number to thirty-two.

“The state government can easily increase the purview in this matter and we want to provide the benefit to a hundred percent of those who are eligible. However, first we want to tweak the system and iron out the creases left by you in the system,” Meena said replying to Rathore’s question.

Right after the question of Food Security, the question of farm loan waiver was also raised. The legislators asked as to the time still needed by the government to roll out the waiver.

Concern was also raised by the opposition over the time being taken as the Congress party, before polls, had claimed that the waiver would be done in ten days’ time, while over a month has passed since it came to power.

Replying to the question, the minister said that there are efforts being made to establish the eligibility of the loan waiver and as soon as the eligibility is established, the waiver will be awarded.
