A student, caught on camera manhandeling Dr RN Sharma, the vice-principal of Rajasthan College, has been booked under Sections 332 and 333 of Indian Penal Code for stopping a public servant from conducting his duty on Monday.

The accused, Pooja Verma, a second year law student, was participating in a protest organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI) at Rajasthan University Campus on Monday when during the protest, she was seen approaching professor RN Sharma and then manhandling him in a video clip.

“The clip from the video shows that when professor Sharma came to pacify the crowd, Verma came rushing at the professor and grabbed him by his collar. Some students even tried to stop her but she pushed them aside and manhandeled the professor,” said Manju Tanwar, sub-inspector, Gandhi Nagar Police Station.

The episode was recorded in a camera and the video went viral on social media soon after the incident.

It must be mentioned here that Pooja Verma has been a national level player and has won medals at international levels.

Students of National Students Union of India were protesting for a variety of reasons including increase in number of seats in undergraduate courses by 10 per cent, improvement in the paperchecking pattern to remove the errors in the results, and to appoint a permanent vice-chancellor at the university, informed Surendra Palsahaniyan, member, of NSUI.

Meanwhile,  NSUI state president Abhimanyu Punia told PTI that Verma was not associated with their organisation.

“We were holding a protest on some student issues. The woman, who is not a member of NSUI, came in all of a sudden and manhandled professor Sharma,” Punia said.
