Struck by rising crime against women, a class XII girl from Kota has come up with a women’s safety device that can be equipped with a wrist watch and would without internet or data card connection send message with location navigation to the family members in moment of emergency.

The device, currently about 500 grams in weight, is functional but needs funding so it can be reset to nano size to adapt with watches and become practically feasible.  The teen, Bhavya Agrawal, has uploaded the project to Namo App and other relevant social engines. She is still awating a response.

‘The rising incidents of crime against women drove me to focus on developing a device for women’s safety through which she can seek instant help in time of need and if required can be under family members’ surveillance,” Bhavya, a class XII science student in Kota said.

Consequently, through extensive research on YouTube, she eventually developed a device that would, without internet or data connection send message, call and location navigation through GPS to family members for instant assistance and help in time of need or emergency.

“One just needs to push a button to send the message that would be delivered to family members’ mobile within ten seconds and the second button to give a call in time of need, she said adding the device is attached with speaker for communication.

The device, equipped with GPS, GSM module, audio receiver and transmission would be able to work even in bad weather,” she added.

The wrist watch was selected to equip with the safety device because one cannot presume a safety measure to be fixed with wrist watch.

A single piece of device currently costs Rs 5,000 but when it is manufactured in bulk, its price is expected to reduce to Rs 1000 to 2000 and can be afforded by any middle or lower middle class family, she said.

“I need financial assistance from government to compress the device into nano size and equip it with the watch as the current size of device is large and weighs around 500 grams,” Bhavya said.

Kota district administration on August 15 felicitated Bhavya in Independence Day function held in Ummed Stadium. The felicitation and the appreciations pouring in for the women’s safety device have certainly put her on the top of the world but financial assistance is required to make it practically workable.
