Sunil Chaudhary has become the new president of the Jai Narayan Vyas University student’s union in a nail-biting contest that went down the wire. He defeated ABVP’s candidate, Mool Singh by just 9 votes after multiple rounds of re-counting were demanded by both parties.

However, Mool Singh, the ABVP candidate who lost the polls has reached the court with his plea alleging bungling in the elections. While, in the first three rounds, Singh remained ahead of his rival, in the fourth round too he maintained a slim lead  146 votes over Chaudhary. However, in the fifth and final round, Sunil Chaudhary was declared the winner, but not before Mool Singh’s 400 votes were dismissed as inadmissible. This resulted in him losing the elections by just 9 votes. Mool Singh has now filed a plea before the Rajasthan High Court. He has accused his rival of rigging the poll results. Mool Singh has also claimed in the petition that despite his plea, re-counting of votes was not done.

There was a tough fight between Sunil Chaudhary of NSUI and Mool Singh  Rathore of ABVP. Chaudhary’s win has also widened the fault lines between the Rajput and Jat communities who are at loggerheads with each other in the region, particularly the adjoining Barmer district, for some time now.

It is reported that during the fifth and final round of the counting, Sunil Chaudhary of NSUI surged ahead by 39 votes. Singh alleged that the votes in his support were dismissed without reason. After the controversy over the votes cast in the fifth and final round, the re-counting of votes began. Sunil Chaudhary of NSUI was declared victorious after the recounting process was over.
