Jeffrey Archer calls India his biggest fan club as more than 50 million Indians have read Kane And Abel and this is the reason why he visits India once a year to promote his new book. The other thing is that he loves cricket and cannot find a better place than India to give talk on cricket.

At this year’s ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival, Archer will among the 350 speakers. Before turning to writing books, Archer was Tory member of parliament and it said the man had potential to become the British prime minister one day. However, his political came down with a loud thud when a newspaper accused him of paying money to a prostitute. In 1987 he won a court case and was awarded large damages because of this claim. He was made a life peer in 1992 and subsequently became Conservative candidate to be the first elected Mayor of London. He had to resign his candidacy in 1999 after it emerged that he had lied in his 1987 libel case. He was imprisoned (2001–2003) for perjury and perverting the course of justice, ending his elected political career.

In Jaipur, Archer will speak about his extraordinarily dramatic and chequered life, and introduce his recently-released Heads You Win, a work of fiction spanning two continents and 30 years.

The others include Akhil Katyal, Ben Okri, Benyamin, Bettany Hughes, Colson Whitehead, Darryl Jones, David Olusoga, Ira Mukhoty, Mary Beard, Navtej Sarna, Priyamvada Natarajan, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Shashi Tharoor, Sven Beckert and Venki Ramakrishnan.

British-Nigerian broadcaster and film-maker David Olusoga will be in conversation with Sir Richard Evans, formerly Regius Professor of Modern History at Cambridge, as he defends the role of history as an imperative to our understanding of the way we live; in ‘The World’s War: Forgotten Soldiers of Empire’
