Four people were killed on spot and half-a-dozen sustained grievous injuries after a jeep in which they were travelling grazed a mini bus and went on to crash into a tree near Dausa. The passengers were headed to the Mehendipur Balaji temple when the accident took place on early Tuesday morning.

The injured are undergoing treatment, police said. “Two of them are critical and are fighting for life,” they said, adding, “The vehicles have been impounded.”

The accident occurred around 2 am on Tuesday morning. “The passengers had started from Bandikui. They reportedly got down at the railway station and headed towards Mehendipur Balaji temple in a jeep.

Late in the night the jeep was crossing the Sikandra area when a mini bus was seen coming from the opposite side, police said. The jeep was at a good speed and as the mini bus approached the jeep, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it veered towards the bus. “The right flank of the jeep grazed the bus and the jeep driver managed to swing the jeep back into the lane, in time” officials said.

Though, one problem was averted, another posed itself in front of the passengers. “The jeep driver averted collision with the bus but he steered the jeep a bit too hard. “He couldn’t slow down on time and as a result, the vehicle went ahead and rammed straight into a tree on the roadside,” officials said.

According to the cops investigating the case, some of the passengers were already injured when the jeep and the bus had collided. “They couldn’t take the second jolt which rippled through their body after the jeep hit the tree,” official said.

Locals heard the collision and came out of their houses to see what had transpired. Immediately, the local police was informed while the people attempted to rescue the passengers. It was then found that four people had already died of severe injuries while six others were hurt and bleeding. The police team arrived and rushed the injured to hospital where the treatment was initiated. The family members of the victims were contacted and informed of the accident. Post-mortem report of victims is awaited.
