The three-kilometer-long proposed green belt along Mahal Road in Jagatpura is set to be free from encroachers as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is gearing up to kick-start an eviction drive in the area from Monday.

The drive will be undertaken near 7 number bus stand and Automobile Nagar.  As the drive is scheduled to commence from Monday, vehicles of the JDA enforcement squad have started patrolling the area on Friday, appealing to the people to voluntarily remove the encroachments.

“There is no need to serve the encroachers an evacuation notice as the drive is being held to free the proposed green belt area in accordance with the high court’s orders,” said a JDA enforcement officer. “Those not allowing the removal encroachments within the stipulated time will also be liable to pay for the cost of eviction to the JDA,” the officer added. There are 50-75 encroachments, which have been targeted for removal during the two-day drive. But there are hundreds more on the JDA’s list.

The high court has ordered that the area along both side of the highways be developed into a green belt and for that it needed to free the area of encroachers.

The JDA has released a public circular in this regard months ago and DNA Jaipur in its edition of October 12 had reported that the JDA action will follow. “In implementation of the court’s orders, we are holding regular drives to evacuate the green belt area,” SP JDA enforcement Rahul Jain told DNA.

So far, the JDA has been attempting to achieve the task through consensus. However, the officials may have to intensify their drive as many could refuse to vacate the areas.

“Encroachment is illegal and this is exactly what we’ve been trying to communicate to the people living in these areas. Many have agreed to voluntarily vacate but most have refused to leave, leaving the enforcement team with no option but to take stringent action,” said a JDA officer.

Attempt foiled

JDA’s enforcement teams foiled attempts by people to set up an illegal residential colony at Bada Padampura. The enforcement squad demolished boundaries and uprooted gravel roads laid on 15-20 bigha of agricultural land without due clearance. The enforcement teams also held a drive in the Hira Nagar area of Zone 7 and demolished four shops constructed in the set back area. These were sealed earlier for being illegal.
