Jat stir: First round of talks inconclusive

As per officials, second round of talks with the state government representatives could take place soon

Dialogue between Bharatpur Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti and the state government nominees held at Bharatpur divisional commissioner office on Friday evening has failed. Now, Jats have decided to continue blocking roads and railway tracks and to intensify protests.

On Friday, in order to press for their demand of reservation under OBC category, agitating Jats blocked all rail and road routes to Bharatpur city. Traders too joined protest and markets remained closed. Meanwhile, additional police force was deployed in view of the Jat agitation.

Social Justice and Empowerment department director Dr Samit Sharma, divisional commissioner Subir Kumar, district collector Dr NK Gupta and police superintendent Anil Tak from the government side while Deeg MLA Vishvendra Singh and Bharatpur Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti convener Nem Singh Fauzdar represented the Jat community and held talks at Bharatpur divisional commissioner office.

At the meeting, the talks could not continue further when officials turned down Vishvendra Singh’s demand for revealing contents of the OBC Commission recommendations. After the meeting, Singh announced that the agitation would carry on until OBC reservation is given to Jats. However, officials have hinted that second round of talks would be held soon. Meanwhile, the agitation turned more aggressive on the second day on Friday. Jat community blocked roads and rail routes at several places as part of their agitation. In Bharatpur, rail route was blocked at Paprera which was why Agra-Bandikui passenger train had to return from Nadbai on Friday. Rail track was also blocked at Helak station.

Agitating Jats also blocked Nadbai-Nagar road route at Katara Raunija. Bharatpur-Kumher route, Bharatpur-Delhi, Bharatpur-Mathura, rail routes were also jammed.

B’DAY CELEBRATED

Meanwhile, as per his announcement made on Thursday, Deeg MLA Vishvendra Singh celebrated his birthday on the road at Khedli turn. His supporters congratulated him while raising slogans in his praise. Cake cutting ceremony was not held as Singh had refused. On the other hand, Bharatpur district collector Gupta issued prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC in the district to maintain peace and law and order as well as to deal with chakka jam by Jat agitators.
