The air traffic between Jaipur and Mumbai will be partially hit in coming days as the runway at Mumbai airport will remain closed for 6 hours every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Sources inform that the Mumbai airport’s runway will be going for major repair work and therefore from February 7, the runway will remain closed from 11 am to 5 pm for 3 days in a week. This arrangement will go on till March 30 and therefore, the flights going to Mumbai from Jaipur during the day time will be affected on these three days of the week.
Currently, there are 8 flights between Jaipur and Mumbai and three of them are during the day. These flights comprising of Indigo, Jet and Air India fly between 9:30 am and 1:55 pm time and since the runway will be closed for so many days, they will have to be rescheduled by the airlines so that they operate when the runway opens during the evening time.
For this, Notice to Airman (NOTAM) has been issued to the airlines. Sources informed that some intersection work at runway has to be done and therefore, the runway operations will be closed for this much time.
This repair work will pose an inconvenience to the travellers, especially the ones going to Mumbai from Jaipur. There are a lot of professionals and businessmen who use the early morning flight of Indigo to travel to Mumbai. Since the flying time is about 3 hours, therefore they reach Mumbai during the office hours and after their meetings are back to Jaipur by evening flights.
However, for these 22 days, they will face trouble and will have to either travel a day earlier or plan their works on remaining 4 days of the week when the runway will be open for airlines. Before this, Jaipur airport runway was also closed for taxiway work from October 29 till December 15.
