Fed up with irregular and erratic water supply during peak summer, residents of colonies in the Hasanpura area near Hatwara on Tuesday blocked the road, demanding regular water supply.

They claimed that they were not getting water supply for the last three days. However, the police arrived in time and cleared the road. Later they went to the PHED office of the area to make their grievances heard.

A few weeks ago, residents of Man Bagh area near Delhi road also staged demonstration demanding water supply. The residents of Jhalana Kunda area had also held a demonstration for the same issue.

Apart from these demonstrations, residents of many colonies have been complaining about the low pressure. Meanwhile, PHED officials have given respite to the residents of Basbadanpura. A new pipeline is being laid down in the area and water has now reaching the residents who are at the tail end.

To ease the demand of people for water in Jagatpura area, Pratap Nagar and Mahal area, PHED has also set up PVC tanks for the supply of water. However, with the temperature rise, the demand is also increasing. The problem is more in the areas which are not covered by any scheme of PHED. They depend on water tankers.

Recently, residents of various colonies of ward number 8 demonstrated at the local councillor’s office on Sunday demanding drinking water. They tore down the posters of the councillor and also smeared black ink on his photo pasted outside his office. The public also blocked Niwaru Road for 3 hours.

The police tried to convince the crowd to lift the blockade, but they refused to comply until the PHED engineers were called on the spot. The road was cleared only after the PHED engineers arrived at the spot and assured the public of providing proper water supply.

There is a shortage of water since last few days in half a dozen colonies, including Ram Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Balak Nagar, situated at Niwaru Road.

Local residents claim that taps have run dry in their areas and despite this, the PHED engineers are not supplying water tankers. They have already given a memorandum to the councillor in this regard.

PVC Tanks Setup In Few Areas

What A Waste!

While people in Hasanpura area took to streets and blocked Hatwara road demanding water supply, a shocking scene was witnessed a few kilometres away at Jhotwara Road, Ambabari. Here a pipeline was broken and precious water was going waste, this despite the fact that many areas in city are already witnessing ‘water less’ days.
