Fire and explosions related to gas cylinders accidents are witnessing a rise in the city. On Thursday afternoon a cylinder exploded in Vidhyadhar Nagar area resulting in injuries to two individuals. The incident occurred while a cylinder was being refilled. Although deemed illegal, the refilling was being carried out from a house in the area. Due to the blast, a car was completely charred. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

The incident occurred in Old colony area. “A double-storeyed house had been taken on rent where a youth stays. The youth is involved in the refilling of cylinders using a metal rod. At around 12 noon, the youth was filling a small cylinder with a bigger one when suddenly a fire ensued in the cylinder. Before the people present here could respond, the cylinder burst,” said Dinesh Kanwat, Councillor, Ward 9. Moreover, there were about a dozen cylinders present on the spot.

As the blast occurred, the duo was pushed several feet away from the spot thus sustaining injuries while a car parked nearby was set ablaze due to the flames. “Hearing the blast, the locals rushed alerted the fire department. The fire, however, took a colossal shape and although efforts were made to douse the fire, it damaged the vehicle.
