To conserve rainwater in the state, now it has been decided to make a rooftop rainwater harvesting system in the police stations. Public Works Department (PWD) has notified a large number of police stations in the city namely Brahmpuri, Murlipura, Jhotwara, Harmaada, Malviya Nagar etc.

Not only in the police stations, but also in police quarters the work of making the rooftop rainwater harvesting structures will be done. The work will begin in May and is expected to be completed by the time rains hit the city.

“Attempts are being made to complete the work before rains so that the benefit can be taken,” said an engineer of PWD while speaking to DNA.

Most of the police stations of Jaipur are of old construction wherein no method of water conservation has been put up. As such, a lot of rainwater gets wasted in absence of harvesting structure and the opportunity to restore the rainwater is lost. The campuses are large and have a big roof which can be put to use by making rooftop rainwater harvesting system. Officials of PWD informed that it’s being planned to include government schools also in the list of government buildings where the rooftop system for rainwater harvesting will be developed. The work is being done under the Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (MJSA) which has been showing the way for water conservation throughout the state.

VGF model likely

There is a proposal to run buses in the city on the VGF (viability gap funding) model. The proposal was discussed in a review meeting of JCTSL on Thursday under the chairmanship of mayor Ashok Lahoti. Under this system, the private buses run in the city and the govet pays the gap between the cost of operation & revenue.
