A 2.3 km railway over-bridge (ROB) for streamlining traffic to and from the congested Jhotwara area of the city was launched by chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday. At the foundation-laying ceremony of the infrastructure project, Raje said that the ROB is being constructed at a cost of 167 crore rupees. On the occasion, the ROB was renamed after the name of Rao Shekhaji. At present the existing over-bridge is thoroughly inadequate for carrying the traffic that has increased several times over the years.

“The new ROB shall connect resident of Jhotwara, Jobner and Vidhyadhar Nagar areas to the city. It shall also offer better connectivity to people travelling to Sikar district,” Raje said.

Once the over-bridge is opened to the public it will facilitate the movement of over 6 lakh people. She hailed the project as another of her government’s initiatives to bring the city high up on the happiness index by improving the quality of life of its inhabitants. Citing the recent jump of Jaipur in cleanliness index, the chief minister claimed that her government is striving hard to improve the quality of life of the people in state.

“Jaipur has moved from 215 to 39th position on the swachhata (cleanliness) scale. People would come to a place where the quality of life is good,” she said, adding, “the residents of Jaipur should pledge to keep the city clean and beautiful so that people keep coming here and also wish to settle down in the city.” The Jhotwara ROB and the underpass at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital were among the major projects taken up by the state government for facilitating traffic and public movement. The underpass is also complete, but it is yet to be dedicated to the people formally.
