Hundreds of trained para medic’s in the state are left lurking for jobs as their registration pends with the Para-Medical Council. The Rajasthan high court in a recent decision set aside the council’s argument and ordered in favour of 14 such petitioners to have qualified from private universities. However, uncertainty continues to loom on future of these petitioners and hundreds of other students as the council deliberates on options of appeal at a higher bench.

“The case is being studied and accordingly a decision will be made if the council should appeal against the decision,” says an official of the council.

Meanwhile, the affected students are dismayed as despite hundreds of government vacancies at the department they are denied appointment in absence of due registration. According to these students, the complications of registration criteria has kept vacant most of the government vacancies of an assistant radiographer, lab technicians and Dental technicians announced in 2016.

“Of the nearly 2400 jobs released in 2016, only around 600 vacancies have been filled so far as most of the qualified para medical professionals have not been registered by the council, even as the court has ordered in our favour attitude of the authorities remain disappointing,” says one of the applicants, Hitesh Kumar Sharma.

There are, however, numerous more such paramedic professionals. The issue had occurred as the para medical council denied to register professionals to have qualified from universities not registered with the council. The universities application for registration too were denied by the council.

Even as the court has ordered the council to register such students too have qualified from universities constituted under state laws, even if not registered by the council, the government has already been employing such professionals, however, on an urgent temporary basis.

Temporary staff

Several of the medical universities in the state have sanctioned appointment of such temporary employees without paramedical council registration as need prevails to meet the medical council guidelines.
