The Terminal 2 of Jaipur Airport was unusually crowded on Saturday. They were not passengers waiting for their flight, but workers of the state BJP who had gathered to receive the newly elected president Madan Lal Saini.
Saini was scheduled to arrive from New Delhi at 12:55 pm. The first of the party workers started gathering at the airport around 11:30 am. Slowly the crowd started to build up and so did the excitement of welcoming the BJP president.
Saini arrived in Jaipur with Nagaur MP and union minister CR Choudhary. He was escorted out of the airport by BJP MP Ramcharan Bohra, mayor Ashok Lahoti and health minister Kalicharan Saraf.
The ageing politician who advocates for the right of workers and has chosen to address himself as a worker of the party, was surrounded by supporters who were happy that a leader from Rajasthan has been chosen to helm the party ahead of the elections.
The frenzy around his coronation as the BJP state head could be gauged from the fact that the Airport authorities had to ask the BJP workers to park their vehicles outside the premises to avoid any discomfort to the passengers.
Saini left straight for the Moti Doongri Ganesh temple where he sought blessings of the elephant god and headed to the Amar Jawan Jyoti to pay his homage to the martyrs.
His cavalcade stopped at several points in the city where workers greeted him and took selfies. Finally, Saini reached the party headquarters on the Sardar Patel Marg where the workers and leaders were waiting for him to take charge.
Former BJP presidents including, Om Prakash Mathur, Arun Chaturvedi (Now social justice minister) and his predecessor Ashok Parnami greeted him at the office. The hall inside, and the lawn were teeming with his supporters trying to get an eyeful of the chosen leader. Saini was unruffled and showed remarkable composure during the entire time. The man for the workers and of the workers had arrived.
