According to a rough estimate by the fire department officials, nearly 3 lakh litre of water along with 300 litre of foam was used in abating the fire.
A major fire broke out in a factory at Vishwakarma Industrial Area of the city on Thursday afternoon. The fire broke out when a chemical-laden truck was being emtied at the factory. Reportedly, one person got scalded and over a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them over an hour to douse the flames. The area was cordoned off as senior police officials also rushed to the incident site. According to a rough estimate by the fire department officials, nearly 3 lakh litre of water along with 300 litre of foam was used in abating the fire.
The fire broke out in a paints and chemical factory located on 9F road near Laal Dungri area in VKI area. “The fire broke out at 2.59 pm while work was going on at the factory owned by one Jai Singh. Jai Singh’s brother was engulfed in the fire as he was standing at the spot where the breakout occurred and left him burnt. He was immediately rescued by labourers and was immediately rushed to a hospital. The fire quickly spread to other parts of the factory due to presence of inflammable material,” said Jagdish Phulwari, Chief Fire Officer. Upon receiving the information, fire tenders were rushed from VKI fire station and Banipark fire station.
“However, upon reaching, the fire fighters informed that it was a gargantuan fire and thus more fire tenders were needed. A total of dozen fire tenders of varying capacity were rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the police was also informed which also rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area while the immediate surroundings were vacated. The fire caused damage to nearby buildings as well. We were worried what if fire spreads to nearby chemical factory as it would have been really tough to contain the situation then. Thankfully, nothing of that sort happened,” the CFO said.
The fire fighters started dousing the fire using foam and in a little over an hour the fire was completely doused. “The laborers informed that fire broke out due to short circuit,” the CFO added.
