The Shastri Nagar Kabristan will be free of encroachments today. There are nearly 360 illegal structures occupying the graveyard and they need to be removed following the high court orders. On Wednesday, as police team held flag march of the area, a camp was held by district administration for registration of families willing to be rehabilitated. At the camp more than 135 families submitted acceptance for relocation while electricity and water connections were severed to the marked houses in advance of the anti-enroachment drive.
“We had been able to receive affidavits from many of the residents willing to relocate, the remaining too are expected to cooperate.
Much of these will be moved away on Thursday,” said a senior enforcement officer.
The issue of illegal occupation of graveyard land has remained unresloved for over two decades. The efforts made by district administration to clear the area and rehabilitate the families were met with failure and it has only been after a recent high court order that the process gained pace. The district administration, Waqf board and Jaipur Municipal Corporation have been holding joint operations to clear the area of encroachment.
