Incidents of fire outbreak have been happening in the city for the past three days continuously. On Monday morning too, a fire broke out in the city wherein a junkyard was gutted. Though the cause for the outbreak is unknown, the fire department is trying to ascertain the reason behind the outbreak and suspects that bursting of crackers could be a reason for the outbreak.
According to the officials, the godown is located at Niwaru Road area under Jhotwara police station area. “The godown has been located here for past several years and rag-pickers from Jhotwara and nearby areas bring their collection here. Due to this, there is always a huge amount of junk lying at the godown,” officials said.
On Monday morning, the owner of the junkyard saw smoke coming out from one part of the junkyard. “The man immediately rushed to the spot along with others who worked at the junkyard and were surprised to find that a fire had broken out. The men immediately started pushing aside the junk kept in the spot so that it does not get damaged. However, due to the presence of plastic bottles and other PVC items, the fire soon spread to other parts of the godown. The men had to abandon their bid to douse the fire and inform the cops and fire department officials about the fire,” officials said.
Immediately, a team from Jhotwara police station rushed to the spot while one fire tender was pressed into action. “Upon reaching, the firefighters found that the fire was gradually taking a huge shape as it was engulfing inflammable materials. They immediately called for additional fire tenders and two more fire tenders were pressed into service. It took nearly an hour for the firefighters to completely douse the outbreak,” officials said.
Meanwhile, the fire officials are now investigating the cause of the outbreak. “Though it is hard to say what caused the fire, we suspect that a cracker burst near the godown could have started the fire,” officials said.
