Jaipur: Jawahar Kala Kendra to host urban ‘livelihood fair’

It will have job fair, loan camps, street food fest and products made by self-help groups

The cultural destination of Jaipur, the Jawahar Kala Kendra, over the next few days will offer livelihood opportunities for urban youth. A job fair, loan camps, street food festival and exhibition of products from women self-help groups will he held as part of event under Deendayal Upadhyay Antoday scheme- National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).  

“RSLDC and other firms invited to the fair will provide job opportunities for 1,000 educated unemployed. Along with self-employment will be promoted by access to loans by banking institutions participating at the event,” said director of local self-governance, Pawan Arora. at the fair’s inaugural on Wednesday. 

The four-day ‘Livelihood fair’ is held a part of a state-wide DAY-NULM drive of the Rajasthan department for local self-governance. The fortnight drive commenced on February 1 with a massive awareness rally which will have similar activities in several cities of the state to encourage youth to avail of benefits of the central government scheme. 

Activities planned in Jaipur under the drive also include the issue of certification of street food vendors. While a two-hour workshop on street vendors act has been planned for Thursday in the livelihood fair at JKK, the municipal corporation will host camps to educate upon the street vendors on certification processes. The event will also bring to the venue more than 50 street food vendors at the street food festival. 

The Jaipur center for livelihood established under the scheme will also launch a web application on the concluding day to facilitate online application and processing of requests by potential beneficiaries of the scheme. Officials associated with the mission also assured to help the local self-help groups to market their products through major online shopping portals.
