The Special Operations Group (SOG) on Friday busted a gang involved in insurance fraud. The gang used claim insurance money by procuring fake death certificates and postmortem reports of the people who are very much alive.

Shockingly, among the arrested include an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Rajasthan police, a government doctor, an investigator of an insurance company, bank manager and an advocate.

The arrested men have been identified as  Raghuraj Chouhan (36), Rajesh Kumar (48), Dr. Satish Khandelwal (54), Chaturbhuj Meena (48), Rameshchandra (49) and Yashvant Chouhan.

"In October 2017, a criminal case relating to getting a fake postmortem conducted of one Jitendra Singh was registered at Kotwali police station of Dausa. Another similar case was registered at Ramgarh Pachwara police station of Dausa and sensing the hand of an organised gang in the matter, the case was handed over to SOG," said Umesh Mishra, ADG - ATS and SOG.

The SOG launched investigation into the matter by forming a special team headed by DIG Sanjay Shotriya.

During investigation it came to light that Jitendra Singh lives in Delhi with his wife and works as an auto-driver. Further investigation revealed that one Raghuraj Singh, an investigator with FRM investigation company at Dwarka in Delhi, colluded with Rajesh Kumar of Union Bank of India, Yash Chouhan, advocate Chaturbhuj Meena, Dr. Satish Khandelwal and ASI Ramesh Chand, and took out many life insurance policies in Jitendra Singh's name.

"After the policies were taken, Raghuraj Singh and Yash Chouhan got a fake postmortem report of Jitendra Singh showing him to have died in a road accident with the aid of Chaturbhuj, ASI Ramesh Chand and Dr Satish Khandelwal. They even made a fake report of police daily record and even a death certificate. After this, the men with the aid of Jitendra's wife Sudha and investigator of Bajaj company claimed Rs12 lakh from the company. Furthermore, they even got Rs2 lakh each from Pradhanmantri Jeevan Suraksha Yojna and Jeevan Jyoti Insurance Scheme. Thus, they made Rs 16 lakh on a fake claim which they distributed amongst themselves," the ADG said.

During this time the investigator of Birla Sun Life Insurance reached Dausa for getting a verification done of the documents when the matter came to light and a case was registered at Dausa Kotwali.

"A similar case was registered at Ramgarh Pachwara police station in which the men were trying to get a claim by changing the reason of death of one person from cancer related death to accidental death. The local police have already arrested the deceased's brother in the matter," the ADG informed.

The SOG will demand for a custody remand of the accused to know more about their network.
