It is close to five weeks that Rajasthan unit of BJP is headless. The central leadership of the party is yet to announce a new incumbent. The delay is being attributed to central leadership and chief minister Vasundhara Raje having serious differences over the issue. While there has been no comment from either side, names of whom each prefers have been doing the rounds. Union minister Gajendra Singh is said to be the top choice of the central leadership.

But the long march to Delhi by party leaders, functionaries and even Raje to put forth their opinion and suggest names has created a situation where the party with a difference is getting to be known as the party with serious differences.

The decision to appoint a state president for Rajasthan BJP continues to hang in a limbo even after Karnataka elections, and this, believe party insiders, is damaging the party. “It is demoralising for the party workers and damaging for party at grassroots level. This is a very dangerous situation for a party that has barely few months to ready itself for polls,” said a senior minister.

The time lapsed has given time for lobbying. It has created a situation where every district has several claimants for posts and subsequently tickets. “There is an intensive lobbying and posturing. These are bad signs for the party,” said a senior functionary.

With just about four months before election could be announced, BJP is running on short fuse. There is barely time for a new party chief to take charge and form a new team. It is a huge organisation structure. Forming a team and getting it functional is a tough task indeed.

Apart from its own problems, the matter of BJP chief announcement hanging in suspension has given Congress ample chances to take a dig at the party. PCC president Sachin Pilot too has questioned BJP’s capability to take decisions for the people.

Amid concern for damage and talk of damage control, BJP at all level awaits an announcement. But this BJP vs BJP situation is all set to inflict damage to BJP.
