The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has been on an incessant drive against encroachment for the past week. In the past three days only, more than 400 bighas of precious public land at various parts of the city has been evacuated of squatters. “On Monday, the JDA enforcement team foiled an attempt to establish the illegal colony on public land and rescued 30 bighas of government land at Bagru,” informed a JDA officer. A day before the authorities had vacated more than 300 bighas of land at the JDA industrial park. Another 30 bighas of land were evacuated of encroachment on Saturday.

The development authority has apparently improving upon its land bank for an auction season. JDA, despite being in a financial crunch situation, has been unable to auction its properties for the past few years. The arrival of the new government in the state has triggered possibilities of an improvement in the situation. “The urban development minister has insisted on improving the financial structure of the JDA, the officials have thus been asked to provide a status report on the land bank. Instructions have also been made to get the legal disputes regarding certain properties sorted as soon possible,” says another officer at JDA.

In the sequence, the authority has also been working in direction of digital mapping of its properties. In absence of proper records, many of the properties remain neglected by the authority and on target of land mafia. It had been the high reserved price that has prevented the auction of JDA properties. The new state government, while instructing to improve on land bank have also indicated to lower the reserves prices.
