Following National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, transport department has issued strict rules for old vehicles in the state. Diesel vehicles more than 10 years old have been banned and such vehicles would be immediately seized in Bharatpur and Alwar districts.
In its order dated July 20, 2016, the NGT had asked for removal of old vehicles in national capital region. On directives from Additional chief secretary (Transport) Shailendra Agarwal, the transport department has issued a fresh order to ban diesel vehicle that are more than 10 years old and petrol vehicle older than 15 years in Bharatpur and Alwar districts. These vehicles would be seized besides they would be charged Rs. 5000 environment compensation charge in addition to a penalty. RTO of both the districts have been asked to issue TCC mandatorily for the owners of old vehicles. However, the owners should be issued NOC to use these vehicles in other district but the vehicle should be released only after issuing NOC.
The department has also issued instructions for old vehicles from other states because buses more than 10 years old are brought from Delhi, Haryana, UP and Punjab being used in Rajasthan. These vehicles will not be registered in the state.
The department hopes to stop use of old vehicles from other states here besides reducing pollution levels. Sources in the department claim that soon these rules are likely to be implemented statewide.
