Jaipur: Dangling wires will soon go ‘low tension’

Cable trays are being considered as a solution to eliminate the perils of overhead hanging wires in narrow lanes of the city. These cable trays will be installed on roads that are too narrow for laying underground conduits. This was informed by state minister for energy, Pushpendra Singh at the state assembly while answering questions on hazard pose by overhead electric wires.

These cable trays are metal conduits that protect the electricity wires from damage and at the same time prevent them from accidental contact with nearby structures and people.  “The local bodies will carry out work of laying underground cables in accordance to requirement. The process will involve laying road light cables underground through machines wherever necessary and for narrow roads cable tray technique will be used. Cable tray will also prevent additional expense of road cut,” said Singh.  He informed the house that the Jaipur Smart City Limited has forwarded a proposal for replacing the overhead electric wires and work will soon commence in the direction. 

“Tender has been invited for the first phase of work for underground cables and shall soon be awarded. The second phase of tenders will also be invited over next 15 days,” the minister apprised the house on advancement of Smart City component.  The minister said that proposals of local bodies for replacement of overhead wires are being accepted by government.
