The Chartered Accountant fraternity of Jaipur, on Monday,  held a protest at Statue Circle against the derogatory remarks used by the politicians and higher authorities of the country to allegedly demean the profession.

The protest happened after finance minister Arun Jaitley blamed the auditors for various scams including the latest with Punjab National Bank. The protest involved CAs holding banners stating ‘We examine..not hunt’, and ‘We resist derogatory remarks against CAs.’

“This is the first time a protest like this is happening in India by the CAs. The integrity of the entire profession is on stake.

The way the prime minister, finance minister, and other national authorities are questioning CAs, the entire fraternity is hurt. If any individual has made any mistake, he should be punished, instead of pointing a finger at the entire fraternity for drawbacks of their own policies, said CA Vijay Garg, convener of the protest.

Prakash Sharma, central council member, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India pointed that CA is the toughest examination, and there are less than three lakh CAs for 130 crore Indians.

“We clear such tough examination, and get blamed for each and every scam. I, as a member of central council of ICAI, am personally enquiring about the PNB scam, and the first hand information reveals no role of CAs. The general manager has said there are no entries in the software,” Sharma said.

Further, CA Dinesh Jain, former chairman of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India - Jaipur Chapter, stated that Chartered Accountancy is the only profession, where the professional grows when the client does.
