Physical Education Department at University of Rajasthan, which was recently under the radar for pulling shutters due to non-availability of permanent staff, appointed Abhay Upadhyaya as an ‘officiating’ Head of Department, to keep the shop running.
The appointment came as the previous HOD, MS Chundawat, retired on Monday, and a person was required to head the department as entrance for admissions this year has commenced.
Upadhyaya, who is from Commerce background, was earlier handling the sports department at Commerce College as there is no Physical Director available at any of the colleges under the university. “Since there were no faculty or any staffer available in the education department, I am officiating this for a very small period of time. I have been closely active in sports activities like organisation of inter-college tournaments,” Upadhyaya said.
Further, the confusions for appointment of faculty for the department has still not ended. The approved position for the Physical Education Department in the university is Assistant Director for sports, and they had released vacancies for Assistant Professors.
“Once we filed a case and the Registrar received a notice from the court, the designation was changed to Assistant Director. However, the education qualification requirements are still the same. This way, most appropriate candidates have been eliminated from the list as they do not have good academic background. The current HoD appointment is expected to stay for a few years as any new recruitment needs at least two year experience to become HoD,” said Munish Agnihotri, applicant of the post. Assistant Director is a post for non-teaching staff who is an expert in the respective field. It is for inter-college and inter-sports activities.
