The state government’s decision to increase retirement age of medical teachers has not gone down well with resident doctors. While medical teachers are justifying the move saying PG seats could be in jeopardy, the senior residents and residents are up in arms against it.
“Since retirement age of doctors was raised to 62 years two years ago; there was no recruitment of medical teachers. However, 50 doctors could retire this month if the government does not approve increase in the retirement age to 65. The government is also considering plea of threat to PG seats,” Dr, Sanwarmal, state president, senior residents doctors association. The decision is yet to be announced, but senior residents and junior residents claim that it would adversely impact their future. “They have also met governor besides announcing agitation from April 1. They have also suggested ways to the government to safeguard PG seats,” Dr. Sanwarmal added.
