The process has moved ahead for giving Jaipur Airport on operation management and its development to a private player.

As per the schedule of bidding process issued by the Airports Authority, a pre-bid meeting was convened on Thursday. If all goes as per the plans the letter of award to the selected bidder will be issued on February 28 this year.

This means that if the talks between the various bidders and the officials of Airports Authority materialise and are successful then the successful bidder will be given the letter on February 28.

Before that the technical bid will be opened on February 16 and financial bids will be opened on February 25, said sources.

After the tender process was issued, about two to three parties have  come to Jaipur to see the airport.

However, how many bidders were present in the meeting held on Thursday is yet not known but a few parties had earlier shown their interest in taking the Jaipur airport on PPP basis.

The employees of Airports Authority had, however, earlier shown their resentment over the decision of giving the airport on PPP mode and had held a series of agitation against it.

In the year 2012 too decision was taken to give the terminal on PPP basis. However, several bids which were issued by the Airports Authority failed multiple times and every time new deadline was issued for several months. That time too the opposition from employees was seen. Inspite repeated extension of datelines for bidding process, it couldn’t materialise.

Currently the Jaipur Airport is seeing large investments on renovation and to augment the capacity of the current infrastructure by Airports Authority.

On November 8,  Union government had approved constituting an  Empowered Group of Secretaries headed by CEO, NITI Aayog with Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Secretary, Department of Expenditure to decide issues on this decision of giving 6 airports including Jaipur on PPP mode.
