Viklang Andolan 2016 Sangharsh Samiti, Jaipur marked 24 days of protest for nursing employment, on Friday. About 28 persons with disability, under the banner, have been protesting outside Vishesh Yogyajan Bhawan for several issues including employment for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) second-grade nurses.

“The medical department had brought out about 15,000 vacancies in 2013, which were later reduced to about 11,000. We, 28 persons with disability, were shortlisted for these posts.

However, the policy states the position will be given only to people with one leg disability. We all are above 40 per cent, but have other disabilities like one leg and one hand,” said Prem Kumari, one of the protesters.

She further explained that while they were shortlisted and an issue of one leg disability was not raised during medical check-ups and counseling. “We were selected by the medical board during the recruitment and they are declared us fir to work, but we were later told that we are not eligible because we don’t have one leg disability,” Kumari said.

The protesters also demand implementation of the decision of filling backlog vacancies of persons with a disability since 1996. “Additional chief secretary, JC Mohanty, has assured us due investigation of the issue, but no official steps have been taken on the ground till now,” said Ratanlal Bairva, organiser of the protest.
