The flavour of kite flying seems to be missing still in the city even though only 2 days are left for the Makar Sankranti. The shops are not seeing the rush which used to reach to buy loads of kites and manjha, days before the festival.

The main markets of Walled City and places like Handipura etc which are the basic source of retailers to buy the stuff are seeing the sales but the retail shops outside the Walled City are waiting for the buyers.

The hope of the shopkeepers is now Saturday and Sunday when the people will not be going to work and have a holiday and therefore, will buy the stuff. Since the kids of junior classes are on holidays, therefore, some excitement of kite flying is seen during the day time, however, the way kits used to fly till late evening in Jaipur sky is missing till now. ‘I have been planning to buy kites and will be going to Handipura as office schedule and cold weather is not letting me do this till now,” said Mukesh Gaur, a professional.

The traders of kites inform that the rates too have increased significantly and are blaming GST for this. “The rates have increased by about 15% on an average and therefore they have become costlier,” said Ramesh Chand, a kite seller at Tonk Road.

They reveal that the rates of items like bamboo, paper etc have increased a lot in the last few years and therefore, the rates are higher. Moreover, they reveal that the supply of kites is short in Jaipur from manufacturing centers in Uttar Pradesh.

However, currently, the Chinese kites are trending in the market. Especially the ones which are used during the night time as flying lanterns. These kites range from Rs25 onwards and go upto Rs 45-Rs 50 and are in demand by the consumers.
