PCC chief Sachin Pilot took on the Vasundhara Raje government, a day before the BJP’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra is set to enter Kota division. Pilot asked the government what pride did it feel in letting several farmers die due to non-procurement of their garlic crops in time? He also blamed the state government for the deaths of farmers who were disappointed with the absolutely dismal minimum support price offered by the state in lieu of purchasing their crops.

“Several farming families were destroyed when their members took their own lives due to the apathetic attitude of the state government. The state government fell prey to a cartel and disbursed a meager Rs2 per kilogram for the garlic crop,” Pilot said. The same government procured the garlic crop at Rs32.75 per kilo displaying an utter lack of sensitivity towards the farmers’ cause.

Pilot was quick to point out that NAFED has sold garlic at prices between 13 and 15 rupees a kilogram. The middlemen have purchased the same crop and are making money off it. The farmers have been left stranded again.  Pilot’s attack on the government comes at a time when Raje is set to tour the Kota division where her own constituency lies. Raje is scheduled to visit, Jhalawar, Baran and Kota during the tour which is being used as a platform to tell the people what the BJP governments at the Centre and the state have done for them.

The Opposition Congress continued its buildup against BJP government at state as it held fourth Sankalp Rally in the state on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering at a public meeting in Parbatsar in Nagaur, Congress state president, Sachin Pilot once again said that CM’s Gaurav Yatra was a waste of public money.

“Farmers, labourers, villagers, advocates, roadways employees, youth and the common public at large are demonstrating for their demands,” said Pilot.
