In a shocking incident that came to light in the city on Tuesday morning, a woman officer of the Indian Revenue Services (IRS) committed suicide by hanging herself. The woman has been identified as Binni Sharma, 35. A mother of two children Binny committed suicide at her home and even left behind a suicide note alleging that she was being troubled by her husband and her mother-in-law. A postmortem was conducted and the body was handed to the family members. Meanwhile the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to the police, the deceased was a 2008 batch IRS officer and she used to reside in AG Colony in Bajaj Nagar area along with her mother and her children. Currently she was posted as the deputy commissioner in the central goods and services tax commissionerate. Her husband who has been identified as Gurpreet Walia is an officer of the Indian Accounts and Audit Services and is posted in Chandigarh,” the police officials said.
The matter came to light on Monday night when Binni’s mother entered her room. “On Monday evening Binni went in her room, however, when she did not come out for dinner till 10.30 pm, her mother went to check on the daughter.
Finding it unusual that Binny had not come out of the room, her mother reached the room and called out for her. However, finding no response from Binny, she entered the room and was shocked to find that she had hung herself from the ceiling after tying a noose around her neck” officials said. The woman lent out a sharp alarm and alerted the neighbours. “Everyone was in a state of shock on learning about the incident. Meanwhile the police was informed and a team rushed to the spot and an FSL team was also called. The cops recovered a note which says that Binny was fed up of her husband and her mother-in-law. The matter is being probed and the family members will be subjected to questioning,” officials said.
