With a view to gauge and enhance the Indian Army’s battlement transparency regarding the flow of information, a special exercise was carried out by the strike formation of the Sapta Shakti Command under ongoing Exercise Vijay Prahar. The exercise – ongoing in the Mahajan Field Firing Range near Suratgarh – saw the troops making use of advanced technology and devices to make split second decisions.

It is believed that one who controls and accurately gauges information flow, will win a battle even before the actual action starts.

In today’s battlefield, information is not just an added advantage to the military commanders -- it is actually a battle fighting weapon -- as important as aircraft, tanks and guns. Where the enemy gives a clear indication of what he wants to do and helps us in pre-empting and preventing him. Thus, the strike formation of the South Western Command carried out integration of input from plethora of modern sensors ranging from the satellite imagery, night vision devices, pilot less drones and long range high precision radars for getting real time information of all the enemy activities.  They also integrated the inputs received from various sensors into the automated decision support system for quick and accurate decision making.

Interestingly, to identify the faults and loop holes, if any, within the operating parameters and drills, the strike formation has been divided into three parts. One part would play to be the enemy while other would play as friendly keeping the third part as observer. The offence and defence would both try to deal an upper hand on the opponent. The data thus collected from these drills and procedures, is then studied and the exercises are fine-tuned to further refine the man machine integration.

The battle rehearsals have resulted in greater clarity of mind and enhanced confidence in action down to the last soldier.
