The 29th West Rajasthan Industry Handicrafts Festival, 2019, will kick off on January 4. Industries minister Parasadi Lal Meena will be kicking off the festival that is to be organized at the Ravana’s Chabootara grounds. The event designed to promote indigenous art and crafts, is being held in collaboration with the district administration, District Industry Centre, Enterprise Promotion Institute, Jaipur, and the nodal agency, Marudhara Industrial Association. 

Festival organiser Sunil Parihar told  DNA that preparations for the mega event are in the final stage at the fair venue. “This festival was started in the year 1991 with only 80 stalls. Now, close to 800 stalls are being set up at the venue with participants drawn from across the country,” he said. The event will conclude on January 13.  

Besides Rajasthan, artisans from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal, Manipur, Daman and Karnataka’s small cottage industrial and handicraft units  will be retailing their wares here. 

A grand pandal has been set up at the venue like every year, where a wide range of handicrafts, industrial products and materials of everyday use are being put up for exhibition, sources said. 

Apart from this, traditional huts have also been set up for live display of the skills of handloom artisans and weavers outside the Central Pandal. This time, handicrafts products exported from Jodhpur will be displayed at the Central Pandal of the festival. Along with this, other products from Jodhpur will also be displayed at the same venue, sources added.

This time, the Handicraft Festival will be the centre of attraction on the evening of January 5. An international conference of comedians and poets is being organized at the venue on this day, the organisers said. Poets of national repute such as Shailash Lodha, Arun Jamini, Jagdish Solanki, Sanjay Bala and Haseem Firozabadi have been invited to showcase their talent in front of a packed audience. 

An open discussion is being organised at the seminar room in afternoon. In this event, Managing Director  Gaurav Goyal, Chairman of Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board Sudarshan Sethi, Industry Commissioner Dr KK Pathak and MDRFC Urmila Rajoria will participate in a discussion on tackling the problems faced by industries. 

The Department of Labour has arranged for promotion of the schemes devised for the youth and welfare schemes. The seminar will be organised during this festival days. On January 7, a dog  show will also be organized, officials said. 

It is proposed to jointly organize fashion shows by the NIFT and Footwear Design and Development Institute, Jodhpur. During the festival, competitions like painting, henna and rangoli art will be organised. Cultural programmes will be organized daily. On January 12, Bollywood singer  Shan will be performing before the local audience. 

Comic Timing 

A conference of celebrated comedians is being organized at the venue on this day, the organisers said. Poets of national repute such as Shailash Lodha, Arun Jamini, Jagdish Solanki, Sanjay Bala and Haseem Firozabadi have been invited to showcase their talent in front of a packed audience.
