Indian Army carries out ‘relief operation’ in Kota

The two-day Exercise RAHAT concludes with relief & rescue operation during ‘dam leak and earthquake’

A professional display of relief operation during the time of disaster and calamity was exhibited by the Indian Army during Exercise RAHAT on Tuesday. 

Disaster Relief Forces, Rapid Action Force, police and other stakeholders also took part in mock drill of leakage in dams of Chambal River followed the earthquake. Relief and rescue operation was carried out under Exercise RAHAT on  the concluding day of two-day exercise. 

Sapta Shakti Command has taken the initiative and conceptualised the conduct of Exercise RAHAT – a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise in coordination with NDMA and government of Rajasthan.  The exercise aims at highlighting the importance of a synergised response by all stakeholders involved in disaster relief operation.  

The one-hour-long exercise, which was carried out at least six to seven points at RAC ground included the rescue of people buried under the debris, airlifting the injured to hospitals in time and to those trapped on rooftops of water submerged houses to safe places, dousing off the fire and instantly constructing the bridge to rescue the people trapped on the other side.

Lt. Gen. Cherish Mathson, following the exercise, expressed satisfaction and complimented all the participants for their highly synergized response during the successful culmination of Exercise RAHAT.

By the order of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a series of exercise for relief operation has been started and it is the ninth exercise that included replication display of earthquake and hybrid disaster like flooding in Chambal River, said Lt. Gen. Cherish Mathson while speaking to media persons after the event.

The exercise has been a great success where forces could display to the nation that Indian arms forces are capable of meeting any disaster, Lt Gen Mathson said, adding that following Bhuj disaster in 2001 and Tsunami in 2004, the National Disaster Management Act came in force, a great deal of things were learnt. Indian army with the capacity to move on quickly and being a disciplined force, we extend our help and assistance in relief operation, he said. 

Lt. Gen Mathson stressed the significance of the role of community in relief operation after the disaster and referring the Kerala flood operation, said community plays a vital role in relief operation as at only the community is left to carry out the responsibility of rebuilding and reconstruction.

Kota district collector Muktanand Agrawal , Kota city S.P. Deepak Bhargav and other dignitaries were present during the demonstration of Exercise of RAHAT.
