There is no let up in the Congress’ attack on the Rafale deal. Senior leader and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda along with PCC chief Sachin Pilot while addressing a press conference in Jaipur on Tuesday demanded independent inquiry conducted by Joint Parliamentary committee (JPC) on the Rafale deal. Hooda claimed that the Rafale aircraft deal which was signed for Rs 526 crore per aircraft crore during the UPA regime but under the BJP government the same deal has jumped to Rs 1670 crore.

He charged that the Modi government had unilaterally decided to buy only 36 Rafale aircraft at a cost of Rs. 60,145 crore, which proves that it is encouraging crony capitalism. Hooda alleged that the government company HAL was kept out of  one of the biggest defence offset contracts and it was given to a private company. He claimed that defence procurement process was completely ignored and contract negotiation committee and price negotiation committee were also sidelined. He claimed the meeting of council of minister was also organised merely two days before the agreement was made and alleged that cabinet committee on security was also kept in dark. Addressing the media, PCC chief Sachin Pilot demanded that BJP government should clarify how Rafale aircraft which was of Rs 526 crore apiece during UPA government time got costlier by 300% during BJP government. Pilot also demanded to know that why now only 36 aircraft were being bought instead of 126 aircraft. He reiterated the demand made by Hooda that independent inquiry by JPC should be done so that the actual picture of buying process can be made public.

He said that the PM and government are claiming that this is a national security matter and it’s a contract between two countries, therefore it cannot be revealed. However, the truth is that the commercial rate of Rafale aircraft can be disclosed in parliament.
