In Jaipur, no 'virtual' impact of bandh

As a precautionary measure several schools across Jaipur remained closed after advisory in this regard was issued. However, this decision was left on school administration.

The power of social media came to the fore on Tuesday when without any leadership and street power, the bandh against the caste-based reservation in jobs and education was observed in different part of the state.

As a precautionary measure several schools across Jaipur remained closed after advisory in this regard was issued. However,  this decision was left on school administration.

The bandh evoked a mixed response in Jaipur. Shops remained closed across the city in the early hours but as the day progressed, shops started opening. However, a majority of shops located around residential areas remained close till evening. Areas like Jhotwara, Khatipura, Vaishali Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Raja Park, Shastri Nagar and various other residential areas were devoid of the usual movement of public as seen during normal days.

Except a few minor incidents in the city which were dealt swiftly by the cops, the bandh was peaceful.. Across Jaipur over a dozen men were arrested violating Section 144 that had been imposed.

Special teams made by the Jaipur Commissionerate which included companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) also patrolled in the city to maintain law and order. The Jaipur Police relied on Abhay Command Center to provide information of any assembly of people  in the city and as a few people were seen getting together, the police quickly reached the spot disperse them. 

The suspension of the internet services for 24 hours in Jaipur caused inconvenience to people as booking a cab or ordering food could not be done. Furthermore, ATM transactions were also hit. “We had instructed that no rallies would be taken out in Jaipur and a few men tried who this were arrested. At some places there was complete bandh, at some place partial bandh and at some places there was no bandh observed. Majority of Udaipur range,

Jodhpur range, Ajmer range were peaceful. Jaipur city, Jaipur rural, partially in Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Karauli had minor issues. No violence or law and order situation occurred anywhere in state,” said NRK Reddy, Additional Director General,Law and Order.
