Illegal abortion centre busted in Hanumangarh dist

The Medical and Health department busted an illegal ‘abortion centre’, running in a residential area in Hanumangarh district headquarter. The house from where the racket was being operated was not even registered with the health department under the MTP Act and medicines used for abortion were being administered and stored at the house without a legal permission from the health department. 

The raid was conducted by a team lead by Hanumangarh Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Arun Kumar. The team arrested a quack and his 65-year-old female aide who was a practitioner ‘Daai’ in the area and recovered a large quantity of drugs used for foeticide. An FIR in police has been filed under Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971. 

“The raid was conducted after the health department got a whiff of the illegal abortions in Sureshiya area of the city,” Naveen jain, state appropriate authority, told DNA. “The team raided at a house near Shiv Park in Ward no. 40 where accused quack Ratan Singh and Saroj were preparing to perform abortion on a pregnant woman. The woman told that the accused got ready to to do illegal abortion for Rs 2,000. Ratan Singh runs a clinic in ward no. 41.

Team also recovered a number of medicines, drips and injections from the spot,” he added.

“Only a certified gynecologist can conduct medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) or abortions and only at clinics which have facilities for blood transfusion,” said Jain.

No Permission

The house from where the racket was being operated was not even registered with the health department under the MTP Act and medicines used for abortion were being administered and stored at the house without a legal permission from the health department.
