When Congress will form the government, it will bring Journalist Protection Act, said PCC chief Sachin Pilot, while accusing the Raje and Modi governments of ‘daunting’ media. He was addressing a seminar ‘Vidhik Vimarsh-2018’ held by party’s legal cell at Birla Auditorium on Sunday. Senior congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mohan Prakash also joined Pilot in taking potshots at the government  for bringing constitutional values under threat and suppressing press freedom.

“We will bring Journalist Protection Act and Advocate Protection Law. If we are voted in power, the AICC and PCC will sit together to formulate it. The journalists are being targeted in the current regime,” said Pilot,  adding that Congress government will also plan colonies for lawyers through cooperative societies and it will be clubbed in the party manifesto being drafted for Rajasthan assembly election slated later in the year end.

In his address, Pilot recalled Raje government’s attempt to bring gag bill and called it akin to criminal law bill. “We opposed the draconian law and staged protest in front of the assembly. Finally, the CM gave in and withdrew it half-heartedly,” said Pilot. He went on to say that in the  current regime, be it at the Centre or in the state, the journalists are not safe and constitutional values are under threat.

“First time ever the four sitting judges held a press conference to speak out against the administration of the top court by by the CJI; journalists are under constant threat and people fear to criticize an ideology,” said Pilot. The state Congress head also raised the issue of growing rape cases with minor girls and said that POCSO court should be opened in all districts of the state.

AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash also targeted Modi government for fooling people on triple talaq issue. He said that PM Modi is making a propaganda that Congress opposed the bill tabled on triple talaq law.
