Honest, hardworking have nothing to fear, new DGP Kapil Garg tells men in khaki

Director General of Police of Rajasthan, Kapil Garg, assured the honest officers will be rewarded and the corrupt would not go scot free. In wake of the recent decoy operations held by the department to expose corruption within the department ranks, he said, “It’s our priority that a complainant is duly able to register his first information report without delay, unfortunately that is not happening,” DGP, Kapil Garg indicated of action on the usual malpractice. 

Appointed as the department head, Garg already has introduced ‘decoy operations’ as a tool for vigilance on irregularities in the department. Earlier, this week in first of such an operation, the police had trapped two constables for accepting bribe. The police since has conducted seven decoy operation and action has been initiated in cases of irregularities. 

“Its not against department, those working in accordance to duty expectation have nothing to fear,” the DGP assured that honest officers will not be harassed. “As DGP, I am not to intervene in posting and deployment of officials at station level, but decoy operations will continue to provide us a feedback,” he said. 

The newly appointed department head though admitted that department officials are under tremendous work pressure and need more support in field. He declared to put the ‘Gram Rakshak’ provision in action for the purpose. 

“We have a provision to appoint ‘Gram Rakshak’ and pay those who work for us. The provision has not been used since 2007 but will now be brought in implementation,” he declared. 

The Gram Rakshak will provide the police more manpower and penetration in the remote rural areas. They will also help to bridge gap between locals and the local police. The DGP while talking to media on Saturday said that while decoy operations are being held to trap those obstructing the police work, an attempt is also being made to change the usual practices with a friendly approach. 

All district superintendents and heads of department wings have been asked to closely monitor working of their subordinates.
