The demands for educations, arts and culture were made in the state assembly on Monday and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators stressed that the need of the hour was to highlight people like Maharana Pratap and Shivaji than learn about Akbar the Great.

Making his demand MLA from Bikaner (west) Gopal Krishna said: “It always said Jo jeeta wahi sikandar but instead we should change the saying and say Hari baazi jo jeete wo Maharana Pratap.” The legislator then drew the attention on the battle of Haldighati between Maharana Pratap and Akbar’s forces. Krishna also mentioned that great personalities like Maharana Pratap and Shivaji must be glorified. “Our own heroes have been neglected and their heroism should be brought out in proper way,” Krishna said in the assembly.

Joining him was another BJP legislator Manik Chand Surana, who raised questions as to what were the situations that lead to the change after 1193 AD. “Was it the lack of shastra (knowledge) or shastra (weapons) or was it because of the caste system, these points need to be taken into account,” Surana said.

Replying to the demands, Higher Education Minister Kiran Maheshwari informed the House that in the coming year overall 8,362 recrutiment of various posts will be done. Moreover, a quota of 25 percent will be set for Rajasthani students in the National Law University in Jodhpur. “It is our wish that a government college is established in every sub-division headquarter. Moreover, in 2017-18 the enrolment of girls in private colleges has increased by 17.4 per cent while a 10.81 per cent increase in enrolment of boys has been registered. There is immense potential for generation of jobs in tourism and hotel industry and thus 12 foreign languages courses will be started in government colleges through online system. In the first phase the program will be initiated in government girls’ college in Udaipur and government colleges in Ajmer and Jaipur along with Maharani College in Jaipur, she said.
