Higher education is not a priority of the current government, said PC Bhinda, MLA and syndicate member of Rajasthan University.

“They are more concerned about the poor and farmers. In one word, they are focused on the vote bank,” he said, during a round table conference on ‘higher education in universities: need for structural changes.’ “Higher education is unbalanced in Rajasthan. The infrastructure of the Rajasthan University needs to improve. It is a must to fill the vacant posts of the institution. These are some of the key points I put forward during assembly sessions,” he added.

KL Sharma, former vice chancellor of the university, also stated that quality of education, teaching and researching is something the university needs to focus on, in order to improve its standard. “Teaching and research are not independent of each other. Teachers here don’t read texts and standard classics,” he said.

“I have spoken to the government to sanction posts for five year law college. However, the bureaucracy of the state is a hindrance. Similarly, the teachers are not being promoted on time. It will put a huge negative mark on the university if the departments are shut,” Bhinda added.
