In a shocking development that occurred early on Sunday, four members of a family, including a police constable of Nagaur district police, committed suicide by hanging. The constable and his family had even posted their suicide note on WhatsApp to “explain” the reason why the family took this drastic step to pull the plug on their lives. The constable had been accused of conducting a theft at his neighbour’s house. This had dented the pride of the family to a great extent.

The deceased have been identified as constable Gainaram, wife Santosh and the couple’s daughter Sumitra and son Ganpat. “Gainaram was posted as driver for Didwana Additional Superintendent. The incident occurred at the constable’s home in Bagrasar under Surpaliya police station area. At 4.22 AM on Sunday, he posted picture of a handwritten suicide note on WhatsApp. After the post was read, officials rushed to his house and broke open the door only to find the post to be true” officials said.

In the note, the constable had alleged that while posted in the police lines in March 2012, he came in contact with one Rashakishan Mali - an assistant sub-inspector - and with time, the families came closer. “Gainaram went on write that whenever Radhakishan or his family faced any problem(s), he and his family stood by them. Gainaram’s wife stayed in hospital for Radhakishan’s wife’s delivery. In March 2012, Radhakishan went out of station and when he returned he found the door was open and a theft had occurred and Radhakishan accused Gainaram and his family for it. Investigation was conducted in the matter several times and a Final report (FR) was also filed. During the time, Gainaram was transferred to various places and faced hardships. Recently the investigation was opened again and the investigating officer filed a challan in court due to which the family was under depression,” officials said.

This is the fourth death in the Nagaur police department in a fortnight.
