In the upcoming session of the state assembly, the government is likely to table Gurjar reservation bill.

Notably, OBC (Other Backward Class) commission has submitted report prior to preparing draft of the bill. In the report, the commission has submitted population and job data. While the report is completely based on Garg Committee.

The government is dividing OBC into two categories, which is why the OBC commission had to prepare report afresh.

Old OBC castes have been put together in the first category, while the second category has six castes, including Gurjars, while the total OBC reservation will go up from 21 to 26 per cent.

Once, the new bill comes into effect, there will be 91 castes in the OBC. The government is now working on the draft of the new bill.

However, the bill will certainly get stuck in the court. Earlier, the high court had rejected the bill for crossing overall reservation limit of 50%. This time again the quota has reached 54%.

However, Gurjars believe that if the bill is stuck, then entire OBC reservation will get stuck. Then it will be up to the government to find a solution.

Next talks between the government and Gurjars will be held on October 16. Devnarayan scheme will also be discussed then.

“OBC commission has submitted report to the state government. Population and job figures have been included to enable the government to prepare new law. The report is confidential and based on recommendation of the Garg committee,”  informed Hari Kumar Godara, Member Secretary, OBC commission.

“The government should bring a solid bill. It should remove legal complication so that it doesn’t get stuck in the court. We will discuss it with the government on October 16,” says Himmat Singh Gurjar, Gurjar Leader.
