One of the largest international conferences devoted to modern childhood issues, EarlyED Asia 2019 was inaugurated at the City Palace in Jaipur on Tuesday. Over 600 educators and more than 40 speakers from across the globe are taking part in the two-day conference.

The programme is being organised by ScooNews, Early Childhood Association (ECA) and Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust (MSMSII). The event was attended by academicians, practitioners, and policymakers from across Asia.

Speaking on the occasion, president, ECA-India, Dr Swati Popat Vats said there is a need to revive the culture and heroes instead of searching and trying to adapt to modern childhood learning practices from the world over. The role of men and women educators is equally important in a child’s holistic development, she said.

Throwing light on the significance of emotions in learning, Professor, University of Padua, Italy, Dr Daniela Lucangeli said, “Teaching provokes emotion, curiosity and learning. Senses play a huge part in educating a child’s mind. Positive emotions help the child retain learning much longer.”

Talking about initiatives which can be taken up by teachers to improve themselves, Trustee, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, Rama Dutt said that sharing the best practices is helpful in the growth of teachers. “Group teacher meetings can be organised twice a week where not only teachers of the same level but also senior faculty can guide their juniors,” she said.

Principal, The Palace School, Urvashi Warman said the school has to be a motivating factor for a teacher’s growth. Team building exercises are important for bonding with the leader, parents and other teachers. Also present on the occasion were – Senior Vice President (Education), Scholastic International, Dr Duriya Aziz; (Chair) Development and Recognition Manager, IBO, Mahesh Balakrishnan, Pooja Jain of Pune along with author and editor, Vinitha Ramchandani.

The conference will conclude today with panel discussions on topics like ‘Building a Story and Support Bridge Between Early Years’, ‘Folk Dance and Fitness’ and ‘Play with a Purpose’.

Later in the day, ScooNews February Issue – Our Children, Our Future - was launched by the National Education Committee and dignitaries.  Other than this, ‘Partnering to Unlock the Potential of Early Learners’ a tie-up with ECA and Cambridge was also launched on the occasion.
