Ahead of assembly elections, BJP has trained its guns on Udaipur. The BJP organisation General Secretary Chandrashekhar, on its 4-day tour has been assessing the public mood in this region, which has the distinction that the party which wins maximum seat in this region enjoys the power.

There are 19 assembly seats in the Udaipur parliamentary constituency. Both the parties are focussing hard to garner votes in the run up to the assembly elections. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi had also visited Udaipur last year to mobilise support for their respective parties.

Udaipur has a strategic location as it touches the border of Gujarat.

“Public mood often crosses the ‘border’. Good performance of Congress in the Gujarat’s bordering assembly segments has rang up warning bells for the ruling party. Chandrashekhar visited Udaipur just to see if there is any wave going against the party,” said a senior party leader.

The chief minister Vasundhara Raje is also planning to start her election Yatra from Charbhuja temple in Rajsamand. The party is preparing ground for a grand start of poll campaign from Charbhuja which will later go to other parts of the state. The importance of Udaipur region for BJP could be inferred from the fact that the party has inducted 5 faces in the cabinet. While home minister Gulab Chand Kataria and higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari are carrying heavy weight behind them, inclusion of Sushil Katara, Dhan Singh Rawat and Nand Lal Meena will help the party penetrate at grass root level.

“The RSS is planning to create Udaipur as mini Nagpur. It has developed Pratap Gaurav where the history of Maharana Pratap is conserved. This will definitely empower BJP, which is counting on RSS for polarisation of Hindu votes. We are expecting RSS to play a major role here in the assembly elections,” the leader said.

CONG GRAPPLING

Congress is struggling to present a strong face in this region. Former union minister CP Joshi & former union minister Girija Vyas are said to have lost their ground in the region.
