Gangster Anandpal Singh might be dead, but the liquor mafia, which has for years been active in Churu and nearby districts of the state refuses to die down.

On Monday, night a tussle between two rival gangs came to the fore in Churu city when a hardcore criminal was shot dead by rival gang. The police have registered an FIR in the matter and so far the cops have learnt that the tussle over area of operation between the gangs is the cause for the murder.

The criminal has been identified as one Mahendra Godara. “Godara has nearly three dozen cases lodged against him for heinous crimes apart from murder. He had taken a liquor shop from a person in whose name the shop had been allotted. However, the man used to operate in another person’s area and make deliveries due to which he was in a tussle with another party,” informed Bhagwan Sahai Meena, station house officer, Kotwali Police Station Churu.

Shockingly, sources reveal that the man was connected with one of the rivals of Anandpal who is currently lodged in jail. However, the man was not part of the rival gang but had a fleeting association since the man is a small time criminal for the gang.

Moreover, a few days back the members of both the gangs were also arrested for disrupting peace in the area.

Late in the night Godara was on a bike and was passing from Karwasra bus stand when a utility vehicle reached the area and four men got down from it. The men immediately opened fire at Godara and fled after hitting him.

“Godara sustained four bullet wounds and died on the spot. An FIR has been registered naming Ramswaroop, a history-sheeter of Doodhwa Khara police station and Madiya a history-sheeter of Bissau police station area. Both men are hardcore criminals,” the officials said.

“Apart from these, there are several others who have been named in the FIR. Investigation has been initiated,” officials said.
